Re: Time Bandits
With the movie's episodic, time-hopping structure, basing a TV series on it isn't necessarily the worst idea, but I have serious doubts about Lisa Kudrow here. Not only does every one of her line readings fall flat, but apparently our current sensibilities no longer allow for actors who are dwarfs in leading roles. This came up in the debate over the "magical creatures" in that god-awful Snow White remake trailer, but there are performers who are now missing out on these kinds of roles and a lot of income. So now we have time bandits who are diverse in ethnicity and gender, but an underserved minority for whom these roles were originally conceived has been excluded. The contradictions of modern identity politics never cease to amaze me.

And also it doesn't seem to get at the idea that all of the companions were the same size as the young boy protagonist, so they were all seeing the world through the same perspective! We as the audience are experiencing the world through that very specific point of view, which even reflects on the moments with the similar-sized Napoleon! (And the way we along with the protagonist literally look up to the Sean Connery father figure). So to lose that aspect would seem to miss out on a major subtext of that story.
Although I suppose that I would be open to it being changed for a specific plot purpose rather than just to meet diversity quotas. But we're in a world where Disney+ fundamentally misunderstood the point of Peter Pan.

I’m pretty much in the same boat. It’s interesting that Terry Gilliam doesn’t have an executive producer credit.
