I feel like I’d want a few years’ distance from 2025 before doing that. I remember seeing people vote for Parasite and Portrait of a Lady on Fire and Promising Young Woman on the Sight and Sound poll a couple years ago and feeling a little gross about it.

We did something similar with the first half of the ’10s, I think. I wouldn’t mind it because I am impossibly behind watching more recent films, so it’d be a good excuse

We did, but I don't love the idea because it arbitrarily favors one time period over others. For instance, no one will ever be clamoring to do the last half of a decade by itself, or any 25-year period prior to 2020-2024.

On the current schedule of the projects I'm running, we'll be doing the 2000s next year, the 2010s in 2027, and the 2020s from July 2030 to June 2031. I'm not opposed to someone else running a side project, though if we did that, I'd personally be more interested in another auteur or genre list project

Could it be possible to do something like the AFI’s 100 Best American Movies where the forum votes on the best films from different cultures and regions since it allows people a chance to explore other countries’ cinematic histories that they otherwise not be familiar with?

That's another good option. We previously did a French New Wave list

It’s a good idea, but realistically it would need to be France, Italy, or Japan

I was also thinking that places like India, Germany, Russia, and maybe Hong Kong or Mexico could fit that mold since they all have strong film industries with enough notable films to create some interesting ballots.

In addition to the ones Domino suggests, I think Germany could sustain a top 100 (I mean, list every Fassbinder and you're halfway there). Maybe the UK too?

Some of the others that TechnicolorAcid suggested seem a little too niche (though I don't doubt that there's plenty there for enthusiasts). Covering larger regions might work. One list for Latin America, one for Eastern Europe, etc.

I’ve been thinking another tv list might be fun. I’m really sad that I missed out on the Simpsons one and think there’s a few options that are viable especially if spin-offs and analogous series are included such as an all Star Trek list or something that would include Twilight Zone and Outer Limits.

I'm up for a side project. To be honest, I'm feeling slightly jaded by only doing decade and year lists. Don't get me wrong, they absolutely need to continue. It's just for the past 4-5 years since I joined the site, I've done most of my movie-watching with in sync with them...50s in 2020, 60s in 2021-22, up to the present. They've been terrific for recommendations. However, lately I've been in the mood for pre-widescreen classics, simply because I haven't watched many in the past few years and I miss them (I've watched as many 40s films in the last 9 days as I did in all of 2023-24, according to my LB diary). So yeah, if someone wants to host a brief side project for a director, genre, or country/region, as long as it keeps serving my current viewing desire, count me in!

It'd be a larger undertaking, but I also feel like the Musicals Redux project would be rich. Here are just a few ideas I had written down years back:

-P&P
-Altman
-Frank Tashlin - including shorts/cartoons
-Buster Keaton
-Marlon Brando (star)
-Elliott Gould (star)
-Soderbergh
-Anthony Mann
-Spielberg

-FINAL features
-Shorts
-Costume drama
-Prison/incarceration
-Rom com
-Action
-James Bond

I would contribute extensively to a Hong Kong list if we did one. Be a good way to get back into watching HK films.
